Full mechanics drop in the Gearbox Devcast on May 26, and we will expand this guide once the fight is live.

Type: Raid boss (tag-team)
Available: May 28, 2026 — free Version 1.7 update
Difficulty: Designed for Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode, UVH Rank 7
Note: This encounter lacks Bio Armor

What we know about the fight

Subjugator and Thol are two of the Timekeeper’s lackeys, and the encounter is a tag-team superboss — fans have compared it to Dark Souls’ Ornstein and Smough. The two clash with you and take turns before joining up for a deadly dual attack.

The key mechanic is the second stage. Eliminating one boss empowers the survivor, who retreats to their own domain at full power for a final showdown:

  • Take out Thol first and Subjugator rises into the sky, transforming into a giant you fight from floating platforms.
  • Take out Subjugator first and Thol slams through the floor, luring you down into the caverns below, where he casts off his glistening armor.

So your kill order decides the arena and the final phase — pick the stage you would rather fight in.

Loot table

Drop rates are 15% legendary, increasing by 2% per UVH Rank. The confirmed pool:

  • Jail-Broken Gatling — Pearlescent Ripper SMG (the headline drop)
  • Lockjaw — Torgue assault rifle
  • Shammy Kablammy — Tediore pistol
  • Flak Cannon — Vladof heavy weapon (ordnance)
  • Collector — Order shield
  • Class Mods — 5 unique mods, one per Vault Hunter
  • Firmware — Active Fire (Tier 3 charge-weapon bonus)

Element and card stats scale with your level and roll, so confirm them in-game once the raid is live.

How to prepare before May 28

  • Hit UVH Rank 7 so you can enter and so drop rates are at their best.
  • Bank a flexible, survivable loadout — keep both shield-stripping and armor elements ready since the empowered stage isn’t fully detailed yet.
  • Don’t burn rare upgrade materials right before the raid; wait to see what the loot table makes best.
  • Plan your build at the Build Planner.
