Patch 1.4 dropped on 2026-04-22, and we have spent the last 48 hours testing it across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X. This is a first-impressions post — not a definitive review. Some of these takes will look wrong in a week as the meta settles. We are an unofficial fan site, and we will update this post as we test more.

The patch is meaningful. It is not the biggest BL4 has shipped (1.2 holds that title, with the Mayhem rework), but 1.4 fixes a lot of small papercuts and rebalances several boss fights in ways that ripple through the meta.

What changed (the headline list)

From the official patch notes plus what we observed in-game:

  • Divisioner boss rebalanced. Phase 2 split timing tightened, phase 3 shield duration cut by ~20 percent. The fight is now substantially faster on optimized builds.
  • Stone Demon elemental phase HP gates adjusted. Phase 2 (magma) was the longest in 1.3; it is now more proportional.
  • Pearlescent drop rates raised from major bosses. Confirmed via community sample. Specific numbers pending the 200-kill threshold (see our methodology post).
  • Mayhem 4 difficulty curve smoothed. The damage spike between Mayhem 3 and Mayhem 4 was unreasonable in 1.3. Now the gap is meaningful but survivable.
  • One known Series X crash fixed. The save-on-fast-travel crash from 1.3 appears resolved in our testing.
  • Audio mix on PS5 improved. Boss music now actually audible during fights. Was a frequent complaint.
  • Text rendering fix on ultrawide. UI elements no longer clip on 32:9 displays.
  • Two new pieces of cosmetic content (head and skin per Vault Hunter) added to the season pass.

What feels improved

The Divisioner fight

This is the most visible change in the BL4 Patch 1.4 update. The fight was a 6-9 minute slog in 1.3 for most builds; we are seeing 90-second clears on optimized loadouts now. For full details see our Divisioner walkthrough, which has been re-verified for 1.4.

Pearlescent drops

The community sample is small but consistent — Pearlescent drops are coming more often from named bosses. We will publish updated rate ranges once we hit our 200-kill threshold. Anecdotally: our test team got 3 Pearlescent drops in two days of play, where 1.3 yielded 1 across the previous full week.

Mayhem 4 curve

The 1.3 jump was rough. You could comfortably solo Mayhem 3 and immediately wipe to trash mobs in Mayhem 4. Now it is a meaningful step up but survivable for builds that were comfortable at Mayhem 3. Good change.

PS5 audio

Boss music was inaudible during many fights in 1.3. The mix has been re-balanced and the music is back. Small change, big mood improvement.

What feels worse

Not everything in the BL4 Patch 1.4 update is an improvement. A few things got worse, or at least more complicated.

Stone Demon phase 1 is now harder

The HP rebalance shifted weight onto phase 1 (the stone shell) in a way that punishes underleveled players harder than 1.3 did. If you were comfortable doing the Stone Demon at Lv 38, you might want to wait until Lv 40 in 1.4.

The Choir mechanic in Raid Boss 2 got harder to solo

The chorister add HP was buffed. In 1.3 a solo Vex could brute-force through the choir phase. In 1.4 you genuinely need a cleanse or a Harlowe build. We updated our Raid Boss 2 walkthrough to reflect the new requirement.

A new bug we have already filed

We have hit a reproducible bug in the Drylake Crater region where companion AI gets stuck on the rock formation that triggers the Shalashaska hidden quest. This is on our list to write a proper fix-page for once we have a stable workaround. For now: dismiss and re-summon the companion.

Inventory sort buttons broken

A small one. The inventory sort-by-rarity button is firing the wrong sort order in 1.4 (sorts ascending instead of descending). Workaround: click it twice. Already filed.

What is unchanged that we hoped would change

  • No SDK or build-export integration yet. We were hoping for an official build-export API. Nothing shipped.
  • Companion AI pathing is still not great. Mutt still gets stuck on certain ramps, particularly in the Argent Bunker.
  • No clarity on the BL4 damage formula in the patch notes. Community-fitted numbers continue to be the only option.

Patch 1.4 by the numbers

Our 48-hour test:

  • 14 hours of play across the team
  • 3 confirmed Pearlescent drops (vs ~1 in a typical 1.3 week)
  • 5 boss re-tests (Divisioner, Stone Demon, Raid Boss 2, Hollowmaw, and one mid-game named boss)
  • 2 new bugs filed for our internal fix-page queue
  • 0 hard crashes on PC; 0 crashes on PS5; 1 unconfirmed soft-lock on Series X (could not reproduce)

Bottom line

The BL4 Patch 1.4 update is net positive. The boss rebalances are real, Pearlescent feels better, and PS5 audio actually works. The Stone Demon phase 1 change is the only thing we are mildly unhappy about, and even that is more “now you need to be at level” than “broken.”

We are re-verifying every walkthrough and fix page on the site against 1.4 over the next few days. Anything still showing a “Patch 1.3” verifiedFor stamp by 2026-05-12 should be considered unverified for 1.4 until we get to it.

Thanks for reading. Patch 1.5 already rumored for late May. We will be here.
